Would you rather $10,000 a week vs $10 million at once?

In this updated activity, students explore the question: Would you rather get $10,000 every week or $10 million all at once?

To begin, students compare the amounts to something familiar to get a real sense of just how big these numbers are. Then they analyze, reason, and justify their final decision.

There are two versions of the activity:

๐Ÿ“šUpper elementary students use estimation, reasoning with large numbers, and work with rates to make long-term comparisons.

๐Ÿ“š Middle school students take the analysis further by exploring tax implications (percentage calculations), calculating totals over time, and thinking critically about financial decisions and risks.

โฐ min. 60 minutes including the starter activity - Could be done over two lessons.

  • The middle school version is available exclusively to subscribed members.
