Would you rather $10,000 a week vs $10 million at once?

In this updated activity, students explore the question: Would you rather get $10,000 every week or $10 million all at once?

To begin, students compare the amounts to something familiar to get a real sense of just how big these numbers are. Then they analyze, reason, and justify their final decision.

There are two versions of the activity:

📚Upper elementary students use estimation, reasoning with large numbers, and work with rates to make long-term comparisons.

📚 Middle school students take the analysis further by exploring tax implications (percentage calculations), calculating totals over time, and thinking critically about financial decisions and risks.

⏰ min. 60 minutes including the starter activity - Could be done over two lessons.

  • The middle school version is available exclusively to subscribed members.
