A&W's Third Pound Burger

In 1980, A&W offered a bigger and tastier burger to compete with another famous burger brand, but the sales were not successful at all. What could have gone wrong?? This activity is based on the major marketing mix-up that showed lots of people could use a little revision on fractions!

In this updated activity, students will dig deeper to see why A&W's third pound burger failed by comparing fractions, identifying common misconceptions, and seeing how math mistakes can have real consequences even for big companies. Finally, students will have a go at fixing this marketing disaster!

📝Suitable for Grades 3–5, and works as a quick warm-up/recap for Grade 6
⏰ Min. 30 mins
📚Don’t forget to kick off with the starter slides to set the stage and engage students from the beginning!
